In 1855, Robert Wallace founded R. Wallace & Co.,
which was renamed R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. in 1871.
After Wallace acquired The Watson Company in 1955,
the company was renamed Wallace Silversmiths the following year.
In 1959, Wallace Silversmiths was acquired by the Hamilton Watch Company,
which eventually became a subsidiary of Katy Industries, Inc. in 1983.
Syratech acquired Wallace Silversmiths in 1986. Subsequently,
sterling silver flatware production was moved to Puerto Rico in 1994, and
in 1996, the buyout firm of Thomas H. Lee Co. bought Syratech,
which it later sold to Lifetime Brands in 2006.
Lifetime Brands also owns the
Gorham,
International Silver Company,
Whiting,
William B. Durgin
and Kirk-Steiff brands.
